Alkanet or dyer's bugloss, is a flowering plant native to Europe, especially in the Mediterranean area. It has been cultiuvated, foraged and harvested since antiquity, to extract both a blue and a red dye. These can be extracted is ethanol, producing a stunning purple dye, lake and inks.
