Coreopsis tinctoria, family of flowers often also referred to as dyer's coreopsis or tickseed, in dutch Meisjesogen (girls eyes), etc Favourite varieties for dyeing are coreopsis Grandiflora (large petals, thick early blooms) and Tinctoria (official dye plant, flatter later blooms). When the flowers are picked by ripping off the heads, the plant receives a signal to produce more flower heads. It is part of a huge genus of plants in the Asteraceae family, many of which have also been used as dye plants. All sorts of coreopsis dye a range from brick orange-red to warm oranges and yellows.
